C. Winifred ('86)

Miscellaneous

Cyclone Winifred passed directly over Innisfail in 1986, and damage around the region was generally quite extensive. The Etty Bay residence is very solidly built by an Austrian, who apparently liked to build avalanche proof buildings.
The floor beams are pre-stressed concrete and the blockwork is also very solid.
After several direct hits by cyclones over the decades, we are confident that the building is safe and sound.
The main problems after a cyclone has passed are possible power loss, possible water supply cuts, and almost certainly blocked road access.
Given the amount of warning modern systems provide, it is recommended that residents move out ahead of a major blow.
