Every year the regional surf clubs converge at Etty Bay for the surf carnival. It is a mix of serious racing, and socializing for entire families. The supreme refinement of beach poetry reading is cleverly counterbalanced with some other less refined activities . A competitive under current was detected in 2012 as a number of carefully restored VW Combi vans were on show and more are in the pipeline, preferably in the owners club's colours.
